THE IMPORTANCE OF THE PROFESSIONAL UPDATE COURSE FOR PUBLIC SERVANTS IN THE AREA OF SOCIAL SECURITY

Abstract

The social security system is the fundamental basis of the social rights provided in the context of the Brazilian Constitution of 1988, and the guiding thread of its redistributive structure and the struggle against social inequalities. On the other hand, there is a need to update the major areas of public service and adapt them to face current challenges, resuming their importance, their main forms of action and the principles that underlie them. In this context, based on a demand from the Municipal Social Assistance Department of Rio de Janeiro, made in the end of 2018, the Professional Updating Course for Public Servants in the Social Security Area was formulated, with the objective of increasing and improving the knowledge of these professionals about the area of public management and update them on possible new practices in line with the current context. Thus, the extension course was developed by the extension coordination of the Public Management for Economic and Social Development (GPDES) course at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) with the aim of promoting this increase in the training of professionals in the area and also the mutual professional development of all those involved. In this way, the present report seeks to bring a record of this experience and the benefits it has brought in the scope of the training and specialization of public servants of municipal social assistance devices in Rio de Janeiro.
