Creole seeds play an essential role in the conservation of agrobiodiversity and in the promotion of food security, especially in the context of family farming. Their valorization, use and conservation are fundamental strategies to guarantee food sovereignty and reduce dependence on commercial inputs. The Lucinda Moretti Community Seed Bank, located in Juti-MS, presents itself as a practical example of how agroecology can strengthen rural communities, promoting seed exchange networks and traditional knowledge. This study analyzes the relevance of community seed banks and their alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 2 (Zero Hunger and Sustainable Agriculture), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and SDG 15 (Life on Land). Based on the implementation of participatory methodologies, it is clear that the conservation of Creole seeds strengthens the autonomy of farmers, contributing to the preservation of local ecosystems and to the mitigation of the impacts of climate change. Stronger public policies and incentives for farmers to participate in the conservation process are essential to ensure the maintenance of this genetic and cultural heritage. The study contextualizes the negative impact of conventional agriculture, which prioritizes transgenic seeds and the intensive use of chemical inputs, resulting in the loss of biodiversity and the marginalization of small farmers. In contrast, native seeds are shown to be sustainable alternatives by preserving cultural ancestry and promoting agroecological practices that guarantee the resilience of rural communities and the environment. Different conservation strategies, such as in situ, ex situ and on farm, are addressed, highlighting their importance.
