Abstract

University Social Responsibility (USR) is an emerging topic in academic discourse. It is grounded in the core objectives of higher education - teaching, research, and outreach - with an emphasis on its outreach functions. Its practice is currently enhanced by the integration of social responsibility as one of the indicators for the evaluation and management of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). The aim of this text is to contribute to the debate by presenting the experience report developed during the Social Responsibility Day, the first edition of the FundAção Cidadania project based on outreach activities. It draws on various conceptual approaches to USR, allowing for the recognition of the scope of social responsibility directed towards both internal and external communities, and the importance of guidelines that drive the theoretical and practical advancement of the topic, as determined by the National System of Higher Education Evaluation (Sinaes), which promotes the evaluation of institutions, courses, and student performance, and specifically establishes a management indicator related to Social Responsibility. This academic essay recognizes experience as the starting point for learning, crucial for knowledge production and documentation, especially for enhancing scientific actions and critically analyzing interventions.
